Jimtown Modern

This is a desk I had to get out of my head.

Built from a red oak I cut and milled three years ago in Jimtown, Antigonish County, the desk features two full width drawers held by hand-cut dovetails and Danish Modern inspired firm lines.
It’s base departs from that style, with natural curves meant to plant it like a tree’s roots.
It is 50 inches wide by 29 inches deep.

The Jimtown Modern desk is meant to celebrate the red oak from which it is made through clean lines.

The Mahoneys Seven

The Mahoneys Seven

Quartersawn red oak six legged Stretcher table. 42 inches wide by 4 foot long, stretches out to seven foot long with leaves in. Leaves store inside the table itself, so no forgetting about them in a closet. Lumber milled by Phil Clarke in Lakevale.

At home and fully extended at Mahoney’s beach. The Mahoneys 7 is a recreation of a table around which generations of the Sweet family gathered.

Bayfield 9

Bayfield 9

This nine foot dining room table is built from 150 year old barnboards from Antigonish Harbour. It has a varnish over epoxy finish for extreme durability. A drawer with hand chiseled dovetails and an ash knob spun on the lathe.

The barn from which the boards came for this table was built 150 years ago. I counted 73 rings on one of the wider planks, meaning the tree germinated at least 223 years ago.

Hand chiseled drawer with custom ash knob spun on the lathe. Drawer is wide enough to hold the table place settings.

Malagash Bar

Malagash Bar

This bar was built for Vista Bella Farm in Malagash. It is two tiered with a live edge red oak higher level for patrons. A red oak lower tier is in place for the bartender. It has a large end grain black locust cutting board. The bar measures nine feet by six feet. I did not do the concrete block work underneath.

Maryvale Desk

Maryvale Desk

This desk was built to fit a very exact footprint of a space inside a spiral staircase. The nature of the space meant that after the test assembly in the shed, it was taken apart and reassembled underneath the staircase. Hand cut dovetailed drawer. Yellow Birch cut in Lakevale with legs made from sugar maple cut in Loch Katrine.
